There are only about 3400 exchange accounts in South Korea with virtual asset investments exceeding 1 billion Korean won, but the investment amount accounts for 47%
According to data released by Ahn Do geol, a member of the South Korean Parliament, on Monday, among the 7.7 million accounts (active accounts actually invested) opened on Upbit and Bithumb, the two largest virtual asset exchanges in South Korea, accounts with virtual asset investments exceeding 100 million Korean won (approximately 74800 US dollars) account for only 1% of the total, but their investment amounts account for 70% of the total.
The data also shows that there are about 3400 ultra-high value accounts with investment amounts exceeding 1 billion Korean won (approximately 750000 US dollars), with an average investment amount of 9.45 billion Korean won (approximately 7.07 million US dollars) per account. Although the total number of these ultra high value accounts only accounts for 0.04% of all accounts, their investment amounts account for 47% of the total investment amount, indicating that the cryptocurrency market is more concentrated than the stock market, "said An Daojie.
Among high-value accounts exceeding 1 billion Korean won, investors in their 40s and 50s account for 60%, with the 40s having the highest number of people and the 50s having the highest average holding amount, averaging 14.8 billion Korean won (approximately 11 million US dollars). The average investment amount of these middle-aged or older investors is 12.7 billion Korean won (approximately 9.5 million US dollars).
An Daojie stated that although virtual assets are considered a preferred investment method for young people, the "largest investors" in virtual assets are actually the group in their 40s to 50s.
Out of the 16.69 million accounts opened on Upbit and Bithumb, only 7.7 million (less than half) are active accounts that have actually invested. The average holding amount of investors is 8.93 million Korean won (approximately 6682 US dollars), which translates to a market value of 6.88 trillion Korean won (approximately 51.5 billion US dollars).
In terms of investment scale, accounts with investment amounts less than 10 million Korean won (approximately 7483 US dollars) account for 92% of the total, with an average investment amount of 650000 Korean won (approximately 486 US dollars) for these accounts.
